Born for Mountains tells the story of Elizabeth Knowlton, the first American woman to participate in a major Himalayan expedition. In 1932, she was the press correspondent for the German-American expedition to Nanga Parbat, one of the world's most dangerous mountains. An important account of women on the heights

This well-researched and well-written account documents the challenges faced by an accomplished female climber during an early attempt on Namga Parbat. Julie Boardman captures the essence of life on an expedition for a woman who many of her colleagues believed should not have been there. The account of this pioneering female climber should be an inspiration to all who want to follow their dreams.
