I highly recommend this book

I have hoped Aleya would write a book about her work for many years now. I have really been able to grow with her daily cups meditations. This book is life changing for me. I have never been one to read a lot of new age books as so many are fluffy or too hard to understand. I highly recommend this book. I have not been able to put it down since I got it and I am already able to use the tools she gives to improve my life.

I was reading and was so moved, tears were in my eyes. Before I had bought my copy and for sure before I held it in my hands to read it (because I read the free section via kindle) I had the thought of,"I have known Aleya for over 10 years, worked with her nearly as long, have been listening to the daily cups for almost 5 years, is this book going to be that effective?"
YES! I am getting energy whacks! It is one thing listening and repeating along to her daily cups of consciousness, it is quite another to have the words in front of me so that I can SEE and SAY them.
Oh, Aleya, my Dear, I am so grateful. Thank you so much.
Once I finished writing this all out I was balling.

Our Path to Joy!

I love, love, love this book! It has changed my life! That may sound a little dramatic, but Aleya explains how to live your authentic life; how to be true to yourself and allow others to do the same. We are not alone. We have spiritual beings to help us along the path of life. Aleya talks about how our Higher Self is the go to being to ask for what we need and how to fulfill our desires. Aleya writes with such ease and fluidity that for sure you think she is talking just to you! You can relate to all of her stories because we all have similar ones. And Aleya's lessons are easy to follow. 7 Cups of Consciousness is a hard book to put down!

Colonizer or Colonized introduces two colonial stories into the heart of France's literary and cultural history. The first describes elite France's conflicted relationship to the Ancient World. As much as French intellectuals aligned themselves with the Greco-Romans as an "us," they also resented the Ancients as an imperial "them," haunted by the memory that both the Greeks and Romans had colonized their ancestors, the Gauls. This memory put the elite on the defensive—defending against the legacy of this colonized past and the fear that they were the barbarian other. The second story mirrored the first. Just as the Romans had colonized the Gauls, France would colonize the New World, becoming the "New Rome" by creating a "New France." Borrowing the Roman strategy, the French Church and State developed an assimilationist stance towards the Amerindian "barbarian." This policy provided a foundation for what would become the nation's most basic stance towards the other. However, this version of assimilation, unlike its subsequent ones, encouraged the colonized and the colonizer to engage in close forms of contact, such as mixed marriages and communities.

This book weaves these two different stories together in a triangulated dynamic. It asks the Ancients to step aside to include the New World other into a larger narrative in which elite France carved out their nation's emerging cultural identity in relation to both the New World and the Ancient World.

The quality of communication makes this work art

This work is amazing! This work is a gem. The expressions and choice of words makes this really poetry. If the quality of communication is what makes something a work of art (LRH, "Art"), then this book qualifies as enduring art. Furthermore, there is this pervading earnestness that only comes from one who is invested in what he writes about; it is no mere intellectual juggernaut tour de force. Mind you, a dictionary must be kept close at hand to look up the words that may not be clearly understood in order to imbibe its nectar. It may not be light reading--but it is magnificent reading! This book is an exemplar of a quote by Leonardo in the "Introduction," "the noblest pleasure, the joy of understanding." There is enormous pleasure between the covers of this work at times even rapture!

Beware of the 99 cent version!

This book is wonderful, but if you like this book, avoid the cheap 99 cent version. So many typos, it can be hard to read sometimes. Even the cover reads "Phiosophy" (yes, no L in the word!). Be aware that there's a much better Kindle version that you can find on Amazon if you search with "Story of Philosophy Simon and Schuster". It costs a little more, but it's worth it.

Windows on the world

I read this when I was in high school, so it was my introduction to philosophy. I didn't understand much of it at the time, but stuck with philosophy and history (where Durant was also a major figure for me) in college and went on to teach both subjects. I bought this as a present for a young friend just entering high school and have told him it presents many windows. They will be dark for him now, but gradually he will begin to see wonderful things through some of them.

Invaluable for anyone in business, or going into business

A great resource and a must read for anyone who wants to be successful in business - and it is particularly useful for those in healthcare information technology.

It includes the anticipated reading related to project management, but the book goes much deeper into analyzing organizational structures, management theory, organizational politics, building consensus, surviving among the "sharks", managing stress, and managing the "altered organization" once the implementation is complete (among other invaluable topics).

I wish this book was on my reading list 10 years ago -- it opened my eyes and delivered several "ah-ha!" moments that continue to inspire and shape my thinking.

Enjoyable read but lacks depth

I used this textbook with a graudate level class. There has not been a new edition since 2004 or 2005. Conceptually, this text is solid, but it lacks practical examples. Although scholarly sources are cited throughout the text, there is little depth. I will admit that I found one of the author's opinions quite entertaining.
