the scariest place I know of

Ive studied phil schneiders tapes on youtube and had to get this book. BTW, the book is huge, thick and heavy. Some of the info is in other places, but there was much I read for the first time anywhere. There is some very scary stuff in here. Does anyone have a photo of a draco? Anyone whos trying to keep track of how many different types of aliens are running around among us should have this book in their library.

Alas, a Disappointment

This work is a brilliant magazine article inflated into a mediocre book. The brilliant part ends with page 26. That page, titled "The Concise Manifesto," is a summary of what conversation ought to be, and it may be worth the price of the entire book. From there on, "The Art of Conversation" uses too many devices familiar to writers with deadlines to meet and spaces to fill: short paragraphs, abundant quotations from others, recurring categories and subcategories with slangy names, lists where ordinary paragraphs would do, and subheadings every few paragraphs. In other words, typography and repetition in place of thought.

Two other observations: The author, Catherine Blyth, is as beautiful as a fashion model, judging by the photograph on the dust jacket, and perhaps for her the art of conversation is not as fraught as it is for the rest of us. Also, she is English and occasionally uses phrases that must be clear on her side of the Atlantic but that puzzle me.

Mind the subtitle

If you're looking (as I was) for a book to help you become better at conversation, keep looking. This book does not do that. As the subtitle says, it's more of a guided tour in which the tour guide has collected (and is keen to point out to you) every piece of printed word throughout recorded history that's even tangentially related to Conversation.

Quotations are absolutely abused throughout the book, to the point where it's very difficult and frustrating to read because Blythe's thoughts, information, or instruction are never really sustained without recalling at least two or three historical figures and getting their thoughts on the subject. And at least one of those will be so obscure and poorly introduced as to negate any import their words may have had.

Blythe does analyze different aspects of conversation as well as offer some vague tips, but rather than really dive into these things, she mentions them more in passing. They seem more like the thread that ties together all the quotations rather than the other way around.

I'm at chapter six (or page 115 in the hardback), and I'm not sure I'm willing to hear her out for another 170 pages. I've not read anything so far that indicates the rest would be anything other than quotes cobbled together with ornate, cutesy prose that's quite inappropriate given the topic at hand.

Thank god I got this remaindered. Even if it were free, I'd recommend friends not waste their time on it. It's just too shallow to provide practical help and too choppy to be an enjoyable read.

Hurray for John Allen!

John Allen has a clear, concise and logical mind. He is also extremely balanced in his reporting. I always trust him to deliver the truth. He doesn't irritate me like other journalists, who take extreme views in either the ultra-conservative and ultra-liberal camps, and are often off-the-wall in their reporting. This Booklet deals with the main points of Francis' Papacy to date and from an objective viewpoint.

A great book that gives a straight forward critique of the papacy of Pope Francis. John Allen wrote a book on the papacy of Pope Benedict which was well received so I think has a better understanding than most of the difference between the two. A good read that is quite funny in places.

Most media don't get Pope Francis. They view him through their own distorted glasses and assess him based upon either what they want him to be or the performance they would like him to have. Not so with this small book.
Mr Allen has captured Pope Francis in the context of his first year's words and actions and delivered an accurate assessment.

Wreaking havoc on my journal while shedding fears...

When this journal arrived, my heart sank when I saw there was a tiny tear on the bottom of the spine. My first reaction was to contact Amazon and have them ship me a brand new copy. Then I came to my senses; the whole purpose of the journal *was* to wreck it, and in light of what I was going to do to it, a tiny tear would be the least of its worries.

You see, I made a promise to myself: Follow the instructions and wreck the journal, no matter what my better judgment told me.

It took a few days to get started. In fact, I spent those first few days grieving over what I had to do to the journal (yes, I started by reading through some of the instructions). When it comes to my books and journals, I'm a perfectionist and *damaging* any of them makes me uneasy. Even the sight of someone else damaging a book makes me uneasy.

But, when I finally let loose and did one of the tasks in the book, suddenly it didn't seem so bad. (Plus, it helped that I started with such an innocuous task -- sticking a sticker from bought fruit on a page.) Before long, I was flinging the book at the walls, ripping pages, drawing with glue, showering with it, and a bunch of other interesting (yet highly suspect) activities.

At the end of the day, my family members may think I'm a little nuts for buying a journal I would eventually destroy, however, it's incredibly fun, liberating, and therapeutic. Enough so that I enlisted the aid of a Starbucks barista for my recent experiment (and I think he liked it too).

Truth be told, it exceeded my expectations. Usually, I'm not a guided-journal girl, but Kerri somehow transformed what could be a boring task into something amazing. Kudos to her for it.

(Between you and me, I'm strongly contemplating getting one just for my journal collection. It's *that* good.)

Cannot praise this book enough!

To begin I have already purchased three copies of this book in less than a month. The first was for myself the second two were gifts. I think this book is great for all ages and varying personality types (i.e. artsy, uptight, "no good at stuff like that", wild, vibrant, timid... ANYONE) I have always enjoyed doing creative things... this book has really shown me that I have been restricting myself and has pushed me out of my regular comfort zone. Sensory barriers have been tested for sure, which has not been an altogether unpleasant experience. I was definitely surprised by that! There is a limit to the growth that can happen in your safe, clean and cozy cocoon! Even though there are some kind of disgusting things going on in my journal... it keeps getting more and more pleasant aroma as different ingredients go into it. I also really enjoy how what you do with one page can literally spill over and effect other pages. I have been in this book every day since I got it, more than once a day. I will see something or think of something and say ooh I gotta grab the journal. Although I am working on the prompts in random order (or course) I found it helpful to skim through the "instructions" once through before I did anything else. It's really quite an experience and hopefully you learn things here that can open you up creatively or just breaking any perfectionist tendencies you may suffer. This is either the best or worst thing for OCD-types!!! Maybe the best and worst thing! Like I said, I think there is something to be found in this book/experience for absolutely anyone.

WARNINGS: This book may be seriously addictive to some users. It is likely to deter your attention from other things you "should" be doing and even make more work for you than the work that you are ignorning while do just a little more wrecking. You will make a mess of this book. You will make a mess of yourself, your home, your clothes, etc. etc. If people do not already consider you crazy, they will after they see you working on the wreckage mission. Possible reactions include acting out of normal character, experiencing delight and pride, needing to wash your hands every time you touch the journal, rash and unpredictable actions and results. You could also become dizzy if you breathe too heavy with the glue and any chemical substances used in the wrecking of this book. You may be compelled to buy multiple copies of the book to share with family and friends. This book could actually change your life, I know it has mine. You may see things different in the world and notice art possibilities and inspiration all around you.

In conclusion... The paper does not taste good. You may find a blowdryer handy, on either the hot or cool settings. If you cannot figure out where to begin, I highly recommend the coffee page and or cracking the spine. Both very helpful for those used to taking good care of books. I would love to share some pics of my journal however, it's presently tied up in the bathroom sink. Perhaps another time!

The most fun I've had in years!

I received this book less than 24 hours ago, and so far it has been a blast! I battled cancer last year, and was given dozens (literally) of pretty blank journals. I didn't open any of them. I didn't want to write about cancer and process about cancer. I wanted to KILL CANCER and demolish any and all cancer-related merchandise. This journal is so cathartic. It doesn't take itself too seriously but allows for rage, anger, fear, despair, and all kinds of other messy emotions. Plus, I finally found a use for all the stickers I have laying around in drawers and cabinets.

It is sad that we live in a society in which some of us need "permission" to cut, tear, mutilate, and destroy things in an effort to purge nastiness from our heads. But -- since we do, I'm glad this book is out there.

I was given this book in exchange for my honest opinion and a review.

We are back again with the fourth book in Wildflowers Of Montana series and this time it is the bookish Daisy turn and she doesn't fall for a cowboy either shocker right. I just love Vanessa Vale she always pulls me in to everyone of her books.

Daisy Lenox has had a hard life it all changed with the fire that destroyed her family. Luckily she found a new home a new family and lots of sisters too grow up with. Now Daisy is all grown up. She is an avid reader and loves learning. Even though her family do not find her books or eagerness for knowledge interesting if at all, she normally goes around unnoticed. But that all changes when She meets the attractive new doctor, she doesn't want to be unnoticed any longer. She begins her changes immediately she goes into town more in the hopes of catches a glimpse of the new doctor she even starts following him around, to say Daisy is smitten is an understatement.

When Ethan James was thirteen he tragically witnessed his mother and sister murder. This affected him in so many different ways but the main one being that he became a doctor so he can save lives and help people he will not turn anyone away no matter what there faith or nationality.

Ethan left Georgia behind and he has moved out west to start his life anew. But he realises that prejudice was not just in his old home Georgia it is hear as well. He discovers this when Red Bear falls ill in the local mercantile, He is so shocked when he discovers that the only person to help Red Bear was Daisy she radiates beauty inside and out.

Ethan quickly becomes good friends with Red Bear and soon helps treating the Indians on the reservation but he does this in secrecy. That is until one day when his visit becomes something much more and ends something beautiful. What Ethan is unaware is that Daisy curiosity has gotten the better of her and she has followed him.

He soon discovers this dilemma when Red Bear rides into camp with a wet and unconscious woman. He quickly learns that the woman is none other than Daisy. And knows he must keep her warm and toasty or she might die, Ethan knows the best way and the only way too bring her about is with his body heat. And of course now they must marry not only too save Daisy reputation but too keep Ethan secret.

This book is a thrilling exciting read and totally different from the other three in this series, the characters are always spot on and Vanessa has such a way of writing that we the readers no that no matter what she writes we will fall in love.

In this book I totally fell in love with Ethan he is a tough man but has a heart of gold I totally loved his back story and felt his struggle which moved me too tear.

Daisy has been watching Dr. Ethan for what seems like forever. She can't seem to get him out of her mind and so she follows him. However, she doesn't count on falling into the freezing river and almost dying. Ethan keeps his composure and libido under control as he warms the nearly frozen Daisy. He should have realized her obsession with him was growing, but did she know that he was obsessed with her as well. Could she handle the control he needed in his life, especially when she discovered that meant her as well. Another winner from Ms. Vale. Lots of action, heat and more heat. Highly recommend.

I discovered Vanessa Vale last summer, and it's been a wild ride since! Her books are hot, her characters are real, and her stories involving.

Daisy is the fourth Wildflowers of Montana book, and I read it in basically one sitting. Daisy and her Doctor have immediate sparks, and they were flying!

If you haven't read these books yet, you need to. But don't forget the fire extinguisher!

About the Author

Richard E. Froom, CCIE No. 5102, attended Clemson University where he majored in computer engineering. While attending Clemson, Richard held positions at different times for the university network team, IBM, and Scientific Research Corporation. After graduation, Richard joined Cisco. Richard’s first role within Cisco was as a TAC engineer supporting Cisco Catalyst switches. After several years in the TAC, Richard moved into a testing role supporting Cisco MDS and SAN technologies. In 2009, Richard moved into the Enhanced Customer Aligned Testing Services (ECATS) organization within Cisco as a test manager of a team focused on testing customer deployments of UCS and Nexus.

Balaji Sivasubramanianis a product line manager in the Cloud Services and Switching Technology Group focusing on upcoming products in the cloud services and Data Center virtualization area. Before this role, Balaji was a senior product manager for the Catalyst 6500 switches product line, where he successfully launched the Virtual Switching System (VSS) technology worldwide. He started his Cisco career in Cisco Technical Assistant Center working in the LAN switching products and technologies. Balaji has been a speaker at various industry events such as Cisco Live and VMworld. Balaji has a Master of Science degree in computer engineering from the University of Arizona and a Bachelor of Engineering degree in electrical and electronics from the College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University (India).

Erum Frahim, CCIE No. 7549, is a technical leader working for Enhanced Customer Aligned Testing Services (ECATS) at Cisco. In her current role, Erum is leading efforts to test Datacenter solutions for several Cisco high-profile customers. Prior to this, Erum managed the Nexus platform escalation group and served as a team lead for Datacenter SAN Test lab under the Cisco Datacenter Business Unit. Erum joined Cisco in 2000 as a technical support engineer. Erum has a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology and also holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from NED University, Karachi Pakistan. Good content, full of errors

Overall, I find that this book is helpful in studying for the 642-813 exam, but it is riddled with errors. It is helpful in learning the concepts in each chapter, but not trustworthy in the details. I have spent a lot of time correcting command syntax for example. There are also obvious typos, and I don't trust the review question answers without double checking against another source. In a way, I suppose it should help me be better prepared for the exam by doing this extra work, but I would rather the book be more reliable.

I would be embarrassed to put my name on this book

I've got several certs including CCNA, BCNE, Security+ and have read/used dozens of books to get them. This is by far the worst book I've ever come across in terms of the number of errors. I'm talking typos, misspellings, bad grammar, wrong use of language, broken English, errors in labeling of diagrams, etc, etc. It appears as though it was written by a 12-year old Malaysian kid that barely speaks English (no offense to 12-year old Malaysian kids).

I'm on chapter 6 and have stopped marking the errors in my book. I've found literally hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of these mistakes. Some errors are easy to identify and move on without affecting your understanding of what you're reading. But when there are errors in labeling of diagrams including IPs, port numbers, and VLAN numbers, how do I know if it is a typo or if my understanding is off and the diagram is correct?? It gets frustrating.

It is starting to make me doubt the credibility of the authors. One would think that one of the world's largest and most respected hi-tech companies could put out a decent book. COME ON CISCO PRESS...YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS!

Competition breeds excellence and a lack thereof breeds mediocrity. I think since there are so few other books on the subject, they can put out a POS and no one will squawk.

The actual content is good and informative...which I guess is the important thing and the reason I give it 3 stars. But Gee whiz, it is hard to get past multitude of errors.

Not impressed

Looks like each of the author individual chapters. There is not flow to them; each chapter is written differently. Most of them are cut and paste from Cisco's web site. But if you think the copy/paste is worse, they have written on what they have understood about it on some chapters which makes it much worse.

Based on the way they have written it looks like they are not from the field. There are no research or practical approach to anything. Topics like SNMP, RADIUS servers proves that they have just read document online and wrote the chapters.
