Clare Connery has never lost touch with her roots in the countryside of the north of Ireland. Not for her the ephemeral fashion food fads which are here today and gone tonight! She chooses to concentrate on all that is good and wholesome from the land of green and plenty.
Her first major book 'In an Irish country kitchen' is an outstanding work tracing the culinary history of Ireland set against the colourful social development of the island.It is Easy to read and beautifully illustrated.If you cannot travel to Ireland then read this book and you'll be transported there.
'Irish Food and Folklore' is her third Irish book (she has other subjects close to her heart and her other books include a beautiful Salad book now also available in softback, and the very recent 'Vegetable Book').

Two years ago, Executive Orders, which thrust Jack Ryan into the Oval Office, raised the bar for its immensely popular author. This first Clancy hardcover since then, though a ripping read, matches its predecessor neither in complexity nor intensity nor even, at 752 pages, length, despite a strong premise and some world-class action sequences. Instead of everyman Ryan, its lead is the more shadowed John Clark, the ex-Navy SEAL vigilante of Without Remorse who has appeared in several Ryan adventures. Clark now heads Rainbow Six, an international special-ops anti-terrorist strike force?and, despite the novelty of the conceit, that's a problem, as the profusion of protagonists, though sharply drawn (including, most notably, "Ding" Chavez, Clark's longtime protege), deprives the book of the sort of strong central character that has given Clancy's previous novels such heart. The story opens vigorously if arbitrarily, with an attempted airline hijacking foiled by Clark and Chavez, who happen to be on the plane. After that action sequence, the duo and others train at Rainbow Headquarters outside London, then leap into the fray against terrorists who have seized a bank in Bern, Switzerland. And so the pattern of the narrative is set: action sequence, interlude, action sequence, interlude, etc., giving it the structure and pace of a computer game. A major subplot involving bioterrorism that evolves into an overarching plotline syncopates that pattern, though Clancy's choice of environmentalists as his prime villains will strike some readers as odd. All of Clancy's fans, however, will revel in the writer's continued mastery at action writing; Rainbow's engagements, which occupy the bulk of the novel, are immensely suspenseful, breathtaking combos of expertly detailed combat and primal emotion. Clancy's new one is a sequel to Executive Orders (1996) starring not Clancy main-man Jack Ryan, who, though in the Oval Office, is offstage throughout, but ex-SEAL John Clark, still formidable as a CIA man leading, as "Rainbow Six," an elite counterterrorist organization against biotech billionaire John Brightling. Brightling plans to further tailor the Ebola virus featured in EO to wipe out most of humanity and restore the earth to its "natural" condition. He and his revolting crew of ecoterrorists never quite come to life, so Clark and Co. sometimes seem not to be facing a foe worthy of their steel. But technical detail abounds, as do absorbing secondary characters, including Clancy-philes' old friend Ding Chavez, who in the course of things makes Clark a grandfather, and one of Clancy's more imaginative characterizations, unscrupulous ex-KGB colonel Dimitri Popov, who at first supplies Brightling with accomplices but later recoils in horror from the man's genocidal lunacy. And there are four counterterrorist actions as grippingly depicted as anything Clancy has ever done--set pieces guaranteed to keep thriller readers flipping pages into the wee small hours. Those who have not made their peace with Clancy's political agenda and fondness for technical detail (e.g., what happens to a human head struck by a sniper round) can again steer clear in good conscience. More relevant as time passes

I have read this book six times. It only gets more relevant as time passes. The reality is that Tom Clancy foresaw what terrorism could become on a world stage. His choice of cause for the ideology is interesting, but you can put any purpose as a motivation for their despicable deeds. A multinational anti-terror strike-force is just what the world needs. It's full of the signature Clancy action-on-every-page. You don't want to pass on this one!

Awesome read for all military special ops geeks

I mean, it's a classic. All men should read this as a rite of passage. (Women who enjoy this kinda stuff will enjoy it too!) It's a great story involving brotherhood, friendship, humanity, mystery, terror, humor, etc. There's so much going on in this book, but Clancy weaves it together in a way that doesn't seem overwhelming or overbearing. He also guides you through it so you don't feel lost in the hubbub of everything that's going on. Great book.

Exciting and Excellent Read

Wonderful book!! This book tells the story of John Clark and Ding Chavez and their starting up of an international anti-terrorist unit. Instead of their usual role in the normal Jack Ryan books, they are now the main characters. The story is about the missions they take on and the way they accomplish them with the additional concurrent story of an conspiracy of biological attack on all of humanity. The story of well put together. There are no gaps and the story line flows smoothly.

But this is not the only story that has John Clark (then John Kelly) as the main character. He first appears in "Without Remorse", telling his back story. That book even has Jack Ryan's father, a police officer, in it. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that book also since it tells who he is\was and how he became a C.I.A. officer.

A dirty canary chirps desolately in a cage beside me. Its dream of green fields and sunshine is a very old dream,—almost worn out, I think.

Interpretive possibilities

This text seems to be increasing in popularity among academics, and it does offer some interesting perspectives on the issue of mid-century (the 19th, that is) labor reform. You can view this text in its original format from Google books as well as on your kindle. (It is found in The Atlantic Monthly's 1861 collection, I think -- which Google has scanned.) I think it elicits a number of interpretive possibilities despite its short length, and is worth a read to those people who don't tire of conventional openings and a somewhat-tidy wrap-up. (Although I did read somewhere that Rebecca Harding Davis was forced by the AM publishers to alter some parts of her original text to make it more suitable for the audience.)

Poverty as poetry

When one thinks of socially conscious realism in American literature, what usually springs to mind is the heyday of the “muckrakers”of the early 20th century. Before famous authors like Jack London, Upton Sinclair, or Frank Norris turned their attention to societal ills, however, the trail had already been blazed by a host of earlier writers now largely forgotten by the American public. One such author was Rebecca Harding Davis, a prolific writer for social change. Her novella Life in the Iron Mills, originally published in the April 1861 edition of the Atlantic Monthly magazine, is now considered a pioneering work in American realism. In the long run, however, ground-breaking works don’t always translate into enduring works, and Life in the Iron Mills has not passed the century and a half since its publication entirely unscathed.

As the title indicates, Davis’s novella describes the living and working conditions of laborers employed at an iron mill somewhere in the American South. Hugh Wolfe is a “puddler” at the mill. Despite the back-breaking toil of his occupation, Hugh has the mind of a dreamer and the soul of an artist. He lives with his father and cousin Deborah, who also works in the mill. Deborah, a hunchback, is in love with Hugh, though he offers no indication of reciprocal feelings other than friendly or familial kindness. Both are Welsh immigrants, and their dialogue is transcribed in their native accent, which is sometimes hard to decipher with its sprinkling of apostrophes and ubiquitous pronoun “hur” [you]. One day when Deborah brings Hugh his lunch at the mill, the laborers are visited by the mill owner and some of his higher class colleagues. At first they observe the iron workers much as if they were watching animals in a zoo. Then, as a conversation develops between Hugh and the visitors, Hugh’s mind is opened to the idea that his life could possibly consist of more than just slaving in the mills day after day.

For today’s reader, the problem with Life in the Iron Mills is that the perspective that Davis offers into the lives of the working poor isn’t markedly different from that of these upper class visitors to the mill. Unlike later depictions of similar subject matter such as Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle, Jack London’s “The Apostate,” or even Eugene O’Neill’s The Hairy Ape, the reader never feels like he’s amongst the workers, sharing their experience of filth and toil. Instead, it feels like we’re looking down from above, as if they were subjects in an experiment. This is heightened by the language that Davis uses, which is overly flowery and poetic for her topic. Though she talks a lot about smoke and ash and sweat, you never really feel it, because it’s all expressed in a prose style better suited to describing some sylvan grove. Though Davis may have turned the corner into realism by tackling such gritty subject matter, her writing stye is still very much rooted in the romanticism of the past. Her attempts to introduce religious imagery, offering up Hugh as a modern-day Christ, feel forced and overblown. The ending is as gratuitously drawn out as any melodramatic opera. As later realists would come to learn, who needs all these dramatic and linguistic flourishes when the drama of real life is enough?

Life in the Iron Mills may have shocked in its day, but today’s audience is likely to find it a bit tame. Davis was decades ahead of her time with this attempt at naturalism, but it’s still just an attempt, and a precursor of better things to come.

The first three stories are about a couple experimenting with BDSM. The writing is Awesome with explicit sex scenes .The second set of three stories is about a married couple experimenting with a#@l play including rimming, a#@l finger play both male and female, a#@l sex and pegging. The writing is Awesome with explicit sex and great story telling.

I was not impressed. Some of the stories were ridiculous. I want to be turned on when I read novels with sexual content. This wasn't the case with theses stories. I wasn't particularly fond of any of the characters.

Not For People New to A+ or Computer Repair and Networking

Getting this review out to those who are looking now before the Deluxe Edition is released for Sale and is currently in Pre Order Status. If you have never done the A+ before and if you have not studied Computer Engineering Technology or Computer Science or have taken Instructor led certification training, please wait for the Deluxe Edition. I have used the Deluxe Editions for Previous versions of A+, very helpful.This book delivers extremely concentrated content written on a college level with advanced terminology starting right away in the first few pages of the first chapter; and going forward throughout the book. Here is an example: in PCIE discussion star topology is referenced, without explanation of what a star topology is in reference to discussing bus architecture. The name Sandy Bridge is used when discussing chip sets and processors, without explaining what this Intel Code Name represents. This is not a complaint, just two examples as to why this is not a good book for those new to the subject matter covered in A+. This book disseminates information in a very concentrated and sophisticated manner. I am literally studying every paragraph thoroughly and learning and seeing a lot of new information. I really do like this book. It is good for instructor led training, experienced technicians, and those who have already had some formal training on the subject. I am still reading this, but I had to get this review out to help those who are currently looking at the 900 series in January before the other books have been released for sale.

Highly Detailed but Convoluted

I am currently studying for 901 and 902. This book has lots of details but lacks organization. There is clearly a lack of tables. The author is a bit convoluted because he uses complicated sentences to describe topics. He does not provide clear and simple definitions for many terms. I have to use the internet to search for definitions. I have compared this book with Daril Gibson's book and the Microsoft Press book is much clearer in providing better diagrams and tables to summarize lots of facts. This book is up to date for the 901 and 902 but it could use better and clearer writing. I am currently creating an outline making up questions and answers from this book. I find it very slow and laborious to read the author's content. Sometimes, I can't find even a definition. If you do not know the material, you would find it a difficult and boring book to read. I consider this to be the best in terms of being the latest update and having the most information to prepare for test.d
