The end was a little too unrealistic for me

I was excited for this one, but SPOILER Alert.

it is basically a 90% trip through the Amazon jungle with your piranha death, and a local tribe attack
and at the end we finally got to the good part, which I am sorry but it surprised me, that
these guys can influence peoples thoughts but cannot protect their own vessel from intrusion.
For me that was just to hard to swallow, there was some explanation, but I did not buy it.
Overall a quick read, but in my opinion not as good as the first book in the series.

This second book by John Sneeden is even better than the first

This second book by John Sneeden is even better than the first. I cannot say much as I do not wish to give spoilers. I can say, I hope this series continues a long time. Along the lines of David L. Golemon and James Rollins and just as good! Be sure you read book 1 The signal first. If you do you will be reading him for some time.

Lost characters, Lost direction

John Sneeden did not seem to know what to do with his plot. This is the second book in series that began with "The Signal". I enjoyed reading the first book and ordered the second book, "The Portal" with interest and to see how the plot would continue. The characters are likeable and the plot development was reasonable and then "the wheels came off". The main character has been built up to be this competent, well-trained operative that can handle anything. He made so many obvious mistakes in judgement in this second book that as a reader, I kept thinking what's wrong with him? How could he be this stupid and unaware? There were plenty of situations that unfolded and kept me turning the pages to see who would get killed off next. The one time in the book where there is some "sexual attraction or mild sexual content" between two characters happens at a point in the story where you could care less except to think what a ridiculous time to have this happen in the storyline. The final premise of fallen angels/aliens I found to be absurdly disappointing. It's too bad, I did enjoy the first book but can not recommend proceeding on to this next book.

The Cowboy and the Lady

Luke's Proposal is part Hatfield and McCoy, part Romeo and Juliet and 100% enjoyable. A fast paced, fun story, you cheer for Rachel and Luke from the minute he looks up and sees her enter the cowboy bar where he's drinking. Lois Dyer gives the reader a wonderfully well drawn picture of these two people, you feel you'd know them anywhere. She keeps the hero and heroine credible and interesting. This is part of the McClouds of Montana series. The landscape of Montana comes alive through the eyes of Luke and Rachel. I can't wait for more Kerrigans and McClouds to come together after generations of acrimony.

Sliding into the story of "Luke's Proposal" was like sliding into a hot tub when snowflakes are falling all around. Fire and ice! Luke and Rachel practically pulse with sexual attraction, but they have darn good reasons to resist each other. What keeps them apart is that delicious old plot device-- a family feud. What pushes Rachel to approach Luke with her business proposal is a strange requirement in her grandfather's will. I'm eager to read the coming "McClouds of Montana" books.

Long believed to be taught only to initiated disciples, the details of these meditations have gradually come into the light of modern scholarship over the last sixty years. About the Author
The catalogue is co-authored by Professor John C. Huntington and Visiting Assistant Professor Dina Bangdel, with contributions by graduate students, of the Department of the History of Art at The Ohio State University. Professor Huntington is an internationally known authority on Himalayan art and co-organizer of the 1990 exhibition, Leaves from the Bodhi Tree. Dr. Bangdel, currently assistant professor at California State Polytechnic University/ Pomona, is a specialist in Himalayan art and a leading expert on Nepalese art and culture.

Indispensable

This is, beyond a doubt, one of the most important books about Indo-Tibetan Sacred Art ever produced. It offers the actual practice of Tantric Buddhism as the context for the many remarkable creations beautifully presented within it's covers.
I would go so far as to say that whether or not you are a beginner or think of yourself as an expert, this book is indispensable. Finally, here is a reference which is not filled with highly truncated and frequently inadequate descriptions of the sacred images and there subjects. I am frequently appreciative of some of the various books now available on this subject, but this book is an answer to prayer. If you can afford to get this then by all good means do. Otherwise, I hope that your university or institution has a copy available for prolonged perusal.

Studies from the Circle of Bliss

I was unfortunate to miss the exhibition for which this book is a catalogue and a venue for presenting the previously obscure art of the Chakrasamvara tantras of Nepal to a wider audience.

In the absence of being at the exhibit, this catalogue reproduces all 157 objects to a high degree, enough for you to ascertain for yourself the ideas of the authors, and to appreciate the quality, beauty and devotion held by the artists and reflected within these works of art.

The authors had access to Nepalese tantric priests for help in explaining the meaning of some of the esoteric representations, allowing for an accurate description of much of the iconography contained within the artworks. At the same time, the authors don't transgress the secret nature of the practices as contained in the ritual ceremonies of Chakrasamvara or the oral lineage from Guru to disciple.

Excellent work to have conceived and organised an exhibition of this nature and to have exectuted to this extent.

himalayan art at its best !

This is really one of the few books that everyone seriously interested in himalayan art should not afford to miss. All the different aspects of the himalayan branch of the buddhistic religion / philosophy which have visual representation - from tangkas to statues, to any kind of ritual objects - are illustrated with exceptionally detailed, wonderful pictures, each supplemented by exhaustive descriptions. Entire chapters of the book introduce, and then guide, the reader to and through the meanders of a truly fascinating journey, which develops from peak to peak, from monastery to monastery in that magic world - suspended between land and sky - known as The Himalayas. This is one of those rare books with top class quality built in. Outstanding !
