About the Author
Julie Dubrouillet is a certified labor support doula, childbirth and lactation educator and pre-natal yoga instructor, as well as a trainer of childbirth educators and the mother of two children. The pre-natal Health Education Specialist at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation in Palo Alto, California, Julie has taught thousands of couples how best to approach childbirth and directly supported hundreds of couples through the births of their children. Simon Firth is a writer specializing in stories about parenting and technology. He's written for Salon, Wondertime, Food and Wine and the Christian Science Monitor among other publications and is a regular technology analyst for the London Evening Standard. He attended the births of his two children, where he lovingly supported his wife thanks to the tips he learned in a class taught by his co-author Julie. Julie was also the doula attending his children's births.

The book you take to the hospital

This is a lovely, straightforward guide is for expectant fathers who need a little advice as their wife prepares for the Big Day. Don't be fooled by it's length. It has all the practical details to guide you through the delivery process. We read through several other guides during the pregnancy, but inevitably they are huge, unwieldy, and describe every medical outcome possible in a delivery. This book is the bare essentials that you will need after the water breaks and you rush off to the hospital, when you don't have time to find the right page in huge Bible-sized birthing book.
This book is especially designed for husbands or birthing partners, to set them at ease and give them a meaningful role in the delivery.
Julie is something of a doula to the stars out here in Silicon Valley. She was instrumental at our baby's birth, and she proved herself a caring, wise and experienced coach, who got us through a tough delivery. All that experience shows through in this wonderful little book.

HIGHLY recommend for all birth partners

I absolutely love this guide; it's easy to read, non-treatening and stocked full of useful information. I appreciated that it was completely non-judgemental and would benefit any birth partner, regardless of the type of birth mom is planning for (medicated, non-medicated, with doula or without one). I have been waiting for a simple yet supportive guide like this and will definitely be recommending it to all of the birth partners in my classes and beyond.

Wonderful book for all Dads to be. As a midwife it can be difficult to find books for Dads that are practical, informative and one that really sees Dad as a big part of labor. Supporting your partner in labor is literally the role of a lifetime and this book provides you with the tools to provide meaningful support on that big day. Definitely a must read!
