About the Author
Clint Huffman is a Senior Premier Field Engineer in Microsoft’s Premier Field Engineering (PFE) group, where he focuses on Microsoft BizTalk Server, IIS, and Windows performance analysis. Clint is also an author and master trainer for the Microsoft Vital Signs: Performance Monitoring Windows Server workshop. This workshop teaches students the fundamentals of Windows architecture and how to identify performance conditions using performance counters. Clint has been with Microsoft since 1999, and has worked as a Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) support professional, as well as serving in Microsoft Services Labs, where he helped customers test their applications to identify performance bottlenecks.

This is a great guide to performance troubleshooting and increasing ones knowledge in the area.

I got my copy of this by UPS yesterday. First thoughts:
The chapter structure is well laid out for a performance neophyte to start ramping up based on their scenario. It is also very readable and has a good conversational tone. Screen shots are present but not overkill, its a good balance of examples, theory and practical application so far.
I think this is an excellent reference manual for the seasoned IT professional as well as a good start to finish read for someone who wants to really learn how to troubleshoot performance. Well done.

First of all, I am biased ...

I wrote the forward for Clint's book, and I have known him for more than a decade. But, hey, I still have an opinion. The book is absolutely awesome. Clint spends his time in the field working with some of Microsoft's largest customers. He has been doing performance analysis for years, and he is really really good at it. In fact, he has been doing this so long, he wrote some of his own tools (including the PAL tool).
But all of that would mean nothing if Clint could not get his point across ... he can. He is also a great teacher, and has taught performance analysis to hundreds of Microsoft customers. In short, he has worked with the material so long, and with so many different customers, that he knows the questions commonly asked. This is great, because he put it all in the book. The book is well organized, easy to read, and immensely practical. I keep my copy on my desk, so I can refer to it -- the book is that good.
